Prescription Medication Drop Box Program

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind citizens we have several convenient locations throughout the county to dispose of expired or unwanted prescription medications, which often end up in the hands of unintended users.  Click here for a list of the drop box locations.

Holiday Heroes 5k/1Mile Run/Walk

Join the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office Riverton Precinct and Riverton City for the 1st Annual Holiday Heroes 5K/1 Mile Run/Walk on Saturday, November 14th at the Dr. O. Roi Hardy Park (12400 S 1000 W). This is no ordinary event, but a chance for local runners and walkers to bring donated food and items to those in need during the holidays.

Holiday Heroes 5k/1Mile Run/Walk

The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s office Riverton Precinct is please to offer “Gangs 101” mini seminar on Wednesday, November 18th from 7:00–8:30 p.m. in the Sandra N. Lloyd Performing Arts Center (West Building of Riverton City Hall). Participants will learn how to identify a gang, how a gang works, why people join gangs, and what parents can do if their child is active in a gang. Click here for more information.

Sheriff's Office  Canyon Alert System Now Using Twitter


The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office has added the twitter service to the existing canyon alert system. This provides another option beyond email or text alerts for the citizens of Salt Lake County and visitors to know of canyon conditions.

Sheriff's Office Mourns the Loss of Valued Member

The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office would like to acknowledge the contributions of Stephen A. Moore to the Office and the citizens of Salt Lake County following his passing.  Mr. Moore joined the Citizen Advisory Board in October, 2003, and immediately began volunteering for assignments working booths at community events.  He was initially assigned to Cottonwood Heights and was instrumental in the development of the ID bracelet program for Alzheimer's Disease patients in the area.  Mr. Moore was most recently working in the Southwest Precinct recruiting citizen volunteers for Herriman and Bluffdale.        Click Here to learn more about Dr. Moore's exemplary life. 

Pay-for-Stay Program

The Salt Lake County Council has given approval to the Sheriff to implement a program which will save Salt Lake County taxpayers money by charging prisoners a fee to be incarcerated in the Salt Lake County Jail. Click here to learn more about the program.

Search and Rescue and Lifeflight Recognition

Sheriff Jim Winder recently recognized the combined efforts of the Salt Lake County Search and Rescue Team and Intermountain Health Care's Lifeflight crew during a ceremony at the Sheriff's Office Building. Click here to learn more about the incredible rescue which prompted this award.

2009 Awards Banquet

The Sheriff's Office recognized members and citizens for outstanding accomplishments at our annual awards banquet held Friday, May 15, at 12:00 at the Salt Palace Convention Center.  We would like to thank our sponsors, Salt Lake County Honorary Colonels and Sonitrol Security (click here for more information), for their generous donations. 

Child Custody Issues

Child custody disputes are a complicated and time-consuming issue for law enforcement and can be emotionally trying and frustrating for parents and custodians.
